The worst Corvettes ever made? Really?

February 18, 2015

A couple of years ago, Edmunds posted something that made quite a few Corvette enthusiasts feel woozy. They published this list of Top 10 Worst Corvettes of All time. The article (linked to at the bottom of this post where it belongs) obviously peeved a host of Corvette fanatics, including myself. While some of the cars on the list should have been on there, the two C1 Vettes need to be taken off.

Coming in at #2 (yeah, only one spot from the very worst Corvette ever made) is the 1953. How is it even possible that the first design for the car that changed the course of automotive history is considered one of the worst Corvettes ever built?

I’m dumbfounded.

The author’s thought process was because they didn’t really know what they were doing when they built the car. Of course they didn’t know what they were doing! They’d never built it before! To think that one of America’s most influential cars ever built made this list irks me.

And, now on to the point of this post:

The 1958 Corvette was listed as number 8 on this list. While seemingly better off than her older sister from 1953, this beauty has no right being on this list, either. The author listed the reasoning as being over decorated and having too much chrome.

Um, what planet are you from, buddy?

Because where I’m from, people love chrome. And Corvettes. Especially C1 Corvettes – of any year. They’re gorgeous with styling not seen on the cars of today. Who cares if the louvers are functional? These cars consistently sell for $50,000 in just O.K condition!

Which brings me to my next point…

There are currently eight of these beauties going up on the auction block in Indianapolis this May. Each one is super rare with its options list and color scheme, and each one comes with a 290 horsepower 283 cubic inch fuel injected engine.

In fact, of the 9,168 Corvettes produced that year, only 1,007 of them were 290 hp fuelies. That makes them hard to find. Usually, in the land of Corvette, hard to find means expensive.

How much money will these eight beauties bring in at auction? Only time will tell at this point. But we’re expecting something magical to happen. When you take into account that the cars themselves are pristine and award winning 1958 Corvettes – who knows how far they could go.

What do you think? Should these two beauties be on this list of worst ever Corvettes? Or, should they be removed? You know my take; what’s yours?

Here’s a link to the worst Corvettes according to this yahoo at Edmunds.
