Now back to your regularly scheduled muscle cars. You ever taken a look at the Chevelle? The convertible and coupe versions of the car are absolutely drop-dead gorgeous, real expressions of muscle, with huge hoods and swept back cabs promising power. And boy, do you get power. The car’s stock engine ranged up to a 454 big block, so there’s plenty of room if you want to throw a larger engine in there. The A-Body its based on is also one of the most popular ones out there, meaning spare parts will be very common indeed. The construction was also a joyously simple body-on-frame build, meaning that they’re as decent if you’re just starting out on the restomod journey as if you’re an experienced rebuilder.

If you want an absolute bargain, you’ll want to go for one of the coupes from 1971-72, the last of the second generation models. You should be able to grab one of these for around $10000-$15000, if you’re a canny buyer, but they’re likely to sell up quickly.
