The Impala might not be the first car that springs (or rather bounces hydraulically) into your mind when you think of restomodding. The Impala, particularly the ’64 Impala, is a lot more famous for its role in the lowrider scene, and is thus eye-wateringly expensive now, with an average value of $18,000, but later models are well worth considering. The fourth-gen Impalas, produced from until 1970 are cheaper, due to massive popularity, with prices averaging around $5000-$6000. They might not be nippy coupes, but they do come equipped with massive big-block V8s, and look incredible.

Make no mistake, they’re huge and impractical as stock, but if speed is your thing, you could do a decent amount of weight reduction and put a modern V8 in there, and you’d have a real speed demon. Mostly, the Impala is a vehicle for cruising in, and if that tickles your fancy, you’ll find a lot to love. They’re built like tanks, so should have aged pretty well, and parts are plentiful for any repairs that need to be done.
