Saab 95 V4: A Weird, Charming European Restomod

Every so often you come across restomods that seem both bizarre and wonderfully endearing. The Saab 95 V4 was a weird car to begin with. Powered by a V4, mostly found in motorbikes these days, it was a Swedish take on the American station wagon. At launch it only produced 73 horsepower, but thanks to some improvements, including a new turbo, it’s gone up to 125. Its output may be low, but power isn’t everything, particularly when it comes to Saabs. As you may or may not be aware, while Saab were a car company, they were also (and still are) an aerospace one. What this means is that the car’s bodies were very well designed for combating air resistance. This, in turn, led to nippy little cars.

The ride’s been improved with air ride, while the engine now feeds into a bespoke dual exhaust system. The 95 had a fairly impressive record in rallying, reflected in this car’s Saab Rally Sport transmission being rebuilt. The standard pistons have been replaced with Volvo B21s and a new fuel injection system was added.

Other elements of the car have also been given a round of updates. The hood has had Saab Rally Sport vents added and repainted. The interior has been recarpeted, and the seats have been reupholstered in houndstooth fabric. If you’re interested in adding an intriguing, unique car to your collection, do consider it.
