On The Block: The Incredible Sickies Collection
Some people’s car collections inspire feelings of envy to an ungodly extreme, and Lonnie Reed and his wife Lizzee are two of these people. Their collection encompasses almost every car you can think of. Dodge Vipers, rat rods, Corvettes, and a whole lot more have come into their ownership. The couple exhibit many of their cars at their Route 66 museum and shop, Sickies Garage, in Yukon, Oklahoma. It’s safe to say that the pair are car crazy. Both of them are active drag racers as well as avid collectors, Lonnie on his Harley-Davidson Destroyer drag bike, and Lizzee in her Corvette.
Despite their love for cars, even the biggest collections need to shed weight and create some space for new models. That’s why the couple are auctioning off a collection of their cars at Mecum’s Dallas auction, to be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Centre from 3-6 October. These are our favorites from their collection. The best part is, none of these have a reserve price, so they could be an absolute bargain!
1966 Chevrolet Corvette Drag Car

First up, this incredible dragster. Boasting some serious stance, a stripped down interior, and a huge blower, this Corvette looks like an absolute monster. The car is powered by a 454 V8, and boasts a professionally built Powerglide transmission. The requisite beastly braking system is provided by a transbrake, which locks the racer in first and reverse gears simultaneously. The cherry on top is its beautiful red paintjob, complete with decals inspired by the golden age of drag racing.
1937 Chevrolet Street Rod

If you like your hot rods classic, then boy is this car a treat. Boasting a supercharged V8 with an automatic transmission, this rod is great for both racing and cruising. Step through the suicide doors, and you’ll find an interior upholstered in tan leather, complete with power windows , Auto Meter gauges, and a tiltable steering column. Notice the Chevy’s tubbed exterior, painted headlights and grille, and its eye-catching mustard yellow paintjob.
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

Speaking of cruising, this Chevy Bel Air would be perfect for a relaxed drive. A few months ago, we spoke about the beauty and significance of the Tri-Five Chevys. This is your opportunity to own a piece of history. Restored 15 years ago, this Bel Air features a V8 and a three-speed transmission, but it’s the interior that really catches our eye. It’s been restored to period-correct perfection. The frame has been restored too, and the whole package rides on beautiful custom wheels.
