A multicolored 1948 Packard Street Rod to grace Mecum Auction
Happy New Year, gearheads!
It is my sincerest hope that you all had a safe and happy holiday season. I know I did. And, I’m excited to be back here with you to talk about some crazy looking, super-fast, highly modified rocket ships on wheels.
In fact, for my first post of the year, I figured I’d go with this one of a kind 1948 Packard. If you haven’t learned by now, I’m all about the odd. The stuff you just don’t see on a daily basis.

Hey, I’m not afraid to say that if this were my car, I’d go a different route with a few of the mods. But, this is a restomod, so who cares what I think?
Well, I do. But that’s beside the point…
To get it out of the way right now, I would have went with the stock headlights. Or, at least headlights that weren’t rectangular. I would have left the 90s Chevy truck lights for some other unsuspecting car.

Anyway, I digress.
On to the good stuff. If you look closely, there are about four different colors on this car (kinda like my truck, only most people don’t count primer as a color). This isn’t necessarily a color scheme I’d go with, but it does (oddly) work on this fat bottomed girl.
In true street rod fashion, the proper exterior stuff has been shaved off. Like the door handles and trim, for example. And, while I miss the front headlights, the tail-lights and rear bumper have been upgraded to what they should have looked like from the factory.

On the inside, the minimalist approach is classy. The dashboard is clean and not over aggressive with a sea of infinite, useless gauges. The usual upgrades are present, such as power windows and updated leather heated seats.

Back outside, and under the hood, we have a big block Chevy engine, with a decent sized carburetor. The thing that’s really nice, at least in my eyes, is that there isn’t a bunch of chrome staring back at you as you gawk at the engine.

Personally, and this is just my accurate opinion here, too much chrome makes me feel like I’m in one of those freaky “house of mirrors” fun houses. Ya know, the ones where you’re being chased by the dude with a chainsaw?
But that’s beside the point, because underneath this ’48 Packard’s hood is nothing but big motor class.
This Mecum auction could be interesting, because these cars aren’t something you see on a regular basis. And, when you do see them, they aren’t usually modified like this one is. So, how much will it go for? Only time will tell. But, she’s due to roll across the Mecum auction block at the Kissimmee auction in a couple of weeks.
What’s your take on this ride?
