Among the sea of custom creations, RestoMods’ head mechanic Chris Esparza had the opportunity to speak with the masterminds behind some of these builds. Doughboy: A Fusion of Drag Racing Power, GT Cup Precision, and Modern Luxury

At SEMA 2024, Doughboy emerged as the undisputed showstopper: a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle re-engineered by Blazin Rodz. This custom machine blends the brute force of a drag car, the precision of a GT Cup racer, and the luxury of a supercar, redefining what a muscle car can be.

Engine Bay of this 2800HP Twin-Turbo Chevelle:

At its core, Doughboy houses a twin-turbocharged 540ci big block, capable of 2,800 horsepower. Built by ACE Racing Engines, this engine is paired with twin Precision 8385 turbos, an air-to-water intercooler, and dual 10-GPM Aeromotive Brushless fuel pumps. The engine’s relocation, which is 15 inches toward the firewall – improves weight distribution, giving Doughboy remarkable balance on the road and track.

Chassis & Suspension:

Doughboy rides on a highly modified Art Morrison Enterprises chassis featuring Corvette C7 independent front suspension geometry. Custom hydraulic coilovers by JRI ensure the suspension can be finely tuned for any driving condition. Blazin Rodz utilized advanced CNC machining and 3D printing to craft 35 unique components, including billet aluminum suspension parts for ultimate durability and precision.

Stopping this beast is no easy task, which is why Wilwood SX6R six-piston brake calipers, finished in 24-karat gold, were chosen. Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires (325/25R20 front, 345/25R20 rear) wrap around Kompression Wheels’ custom 20-inch rims for impeccable grip.

Bespoke Widebody Design:

Doughboy’s custom steel widebody, meticulously designed and shaped using 3D scanning and printing merges classic and modern aesthetics. Finished in Porsche’s Night Blue Metallic, the Chevelle boasts clean lines, side-exit exhausts, and carbon-fiber accents, including a flat underbody and rear diffuser. A custom front bumper integrates functional air ducts, while infinity-style taillights add a futuristic touch.

Interior: Race-Ready Luxury

Inside, the cabin offers a perfect mix of function and comfort. A roll cage crafted from 4130 chromoly tubing blends with billet aluminum pillars, providing safety and an exotic feel. The Motec C1812 display dominates the dash, while an Audi R8 steering wheel offers paddle shifters and multiple tuning modes. Avant-Garde Design’s upholstery wraps the interior in luxury, balancing rugged durability with high-end comfort.

Electronics and Safety

Doughboy is powered by a Motec 150 engine management system, supported by twin Motec PDM 30 units and a motorsport-grade wiring harness. Safety features include Lifeline’s 360 Fire Suppression System, offering protection for the engine, interior, and fuel system.
