This Land Cruiser Restomod Could Take On Anything

Most Restomods take a fair bit of time. We’re talking hundreds of man-hours for a lot of projects, but sometimes, brevity produces gold. Such is the case with this Toyota Land Cruiser restomod by Proffitt’s Resurrection Land Cruisers of Austin, Colorado. Built in just nine weeks, after hours, it’s incredible nonetheless. Shown off at SEMA ’17, it melds two generations of Land Cruisers into a reserved, tough truck.

The pickup doesn’t pack a mighty V8 with huge displacement. Instead, you find a 161 horsepower turbodiesel under the hood, but that’s fine. This truck was made to do WORK, not compete in drag races. The transmission set up is fairly simple too, a five-speed manual. The body is that of a 79-series Land Cruiser, dropped onto the chassis of a ’93 FJ80 Land Cruiser that’s been lengthened by 20 inches. The rear is slightly higher than the front for optimum off-roading, and features five-link suspension. At the front, there’s three-link, and both rock Bilstein shocks. It’s four-wheel drive, is equipped with locking diffs, and is fitted with 36-inch tires. It should be able to take on just about anything, especially when combined with that famous Land Cruiser sturdiness.

For the off-roading enthusiast, there are a host of other essential features including a winch, extra bright lighting, and a lack of interior carpets. This is a workhorse of a restomod, and you’ve got to love a truck built for a practical purpose.
