The Yenko Chevelle offered here is the recipient of a pain-staking restoration, and it has excellent provenance and a wonderful story. On June 24, 1969, Ms. Josephine Gresko drove her 1964 4-speed Impala into Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, looking for a trade-in on a new performance car. Assisted by salesman Howard Liverey, she purchased the COPO Yenko super car you see here. Painted Fathom Green with White SYC graphics and emblems, this is only a two-owner vehicle, having been traded into Bill Keith Auto Sales in Wexford, Pennsylvania, in 1976, where the current owner’s parents bought it for him as he was too young to sign the paperwork. This is a rare opportunity to become its third owner and next caretaker.

Built in Baltimore, this COPO 9562 was well-optioned to be sold directly by Yenko. One major factor in the car’s curbside appeal is the 15×7-inch COPO Chevelle Rally wheels and special Goodyear Polyglas F70-15 tires. These were part of a second COPO code, 9737 Sports Car Conversion, which Yenko often used. This also put the correct speedometer pinion and a larger front stabilizer bar into the car. The L72 427/425 HP big-block engine is numbers-matching, and it is backed by a Hurst-shifted M21 close-ratio 4-speed. Power front disc brakes, 4.10:1 rear gear, and Yenko-installed Stewart-Warner tach are also on it; this particular car was also delivered with a bench seat cloth interior, not often seen on a 4-speed package.

A complete nut-and-bolt restoration was completed in 2013. The sale includes the Gresko order form which was hand-written at Yenko, a GM shipping report on the car, and the Yenko car invoice. At one time overshadowed by its smaller sibling, real COPO Chevelles have become hot commodities on the collectors market; few have a background as interesting and documented as this one.
