Our 8th sweepstakes was our shortest yet, opening up on October 5th 2019 and closing on December 10th 2019. About a week later on Thursday, December 19th, Compliance Sweepstakes Services electronically generated a random winner out of the thousands of people that entered. Compliance provided our team with a name and phone number of that random person. First, we called that lucky person and gave them the good news immediately. When we told Heather Lewis of Panama City, FL that she was the winner, she literally screamed in disbelief. Heather and her husband William were preparing their house for their family’s Christmas visit when we called. Watch the first video below of the initial phone call.

“We were moving furniture around when you called,” Heather said. The couple have been renovating their home since Hurricane Michael struck their region last year. “We woke up at 4am when the storm had reached Category 4. That’s when we knew it was time to leave.” Luckily, Heather and William evacuated before the hurricane reached Category 5 and ripped through Northwest Florida. 

Heather and William shared some stories with us after we picked them up from the airport here in San Diego and drove them to the Mustang Shop, where their new ’67 Mustang was patiently waiting. Heather and William are both military veterans, and they still have jobs in the military today. Upon arrival, we opened the shop doors for them and they walked into the shop. Heather’s prize, covered under a Custom Weave California Car Cover, was front and center. They peeled off the cover, revealing the Matte Grey, badass beauty.

We went through a few of the upgrades with Heather, such as the Centerforce Performance Clutch, Flywheel, and Pressure Plate, the Magnaflow Performance Exhaust, the Vintage Air A/C, the Wilwood Disc Brakes, the TMI Products Leather Console and Trunk Kits, and more.

Heather talked about how she had originally entered a couple months back to try and win the Mustang, and mentioned she decided to upgrade to a VIP Car Club on the last day of the Mustang giveaway. William was skeptical, but didn’t mind the 20 bucks or so that got them an abundance of entries. Heather explained that, when we first told her she had won, “I believed it the second you guys called.” William was, as he admits, a bit more cynical, but really came around when our guy Don from Compliance Sweepstakes Services contacted them with the paperwork and next steps. “I was a cynic,” he laughed. Nothing was more real though than standing right next to the ’67 Mustang face to face. Heather hugged the car when she first walked up to it.

One of the best moments in the shop was when we asked them who will drive it more. Although Heather had meant to enter for her husband, she used her own name when she signed up, so legally, she is the owner of the Mustang. They joked at first, Heather exclaimed, “Me!” and William answered, “No, me!”  but they said that sharing the prize together is ultimately what they’re really looking forward to.

Being the winner, Heather got the first drive in the Mustang. Mike rode shotgun, and off they went! Heather was loving every minute of it. Then when she came back, Mike got out and we watched as William took his wife for a joyride. Heather and William drove the Mustang like true champs, I might add. They put the pedal to the metal and banged through the gears like it was second nature. It’s worth noting that Heather and William are huge Mustang fans, and they have both owned classic and contemporary Mustangs in the past. It came time to check the Lewises into their hotel, so they hopped in their ’67 Mustang and followed Mike and I in the ’69 Charger all the way across town to the Bahia Hotel and Resort in Mission Bay.

As the sun set over Mission Beach, Heather, William, Mike, Chris and I went to dinner at Saska’s and fattened up on delicious steaks and oysters. Heather and William talked about their 6 kids, who are all hard working adults just like their parents. It sounds like they have very bright futures ahead of them! They talked about their upbringings in Northwest Florida and told us more about their military service when they were younger.

The next day, Mike met up with Heather and William to give her the Mustang’s title and sign it. Then, we let the couple loose on our wonderful city for the rest of the day, and then took them back to the airport the following morning to send them home. We are currently in the process of arranging the shipping for the ’67 Mustang in a covered hauler.
