1964 Chevy II Gasser With a Big Block 454 and an Exhaust That I Can’t Figure Out

December 16, 2014

I love gassers. And if you don’t, maybe you should. After all, as we read in my last  blog post about gassers, these jacked up cars helped bridge the gap between the dragging of yesteryear, and what we have today.

The gasser period was a time of ingenuity and rule bending. And, it was also the time when cars really started smoking down the track.

Something you generally don’t see a lot of, are gasser muscle cars. It does happen, just not as often as the sleds from the ‘50s. If you’re into the gasser scene or not, this next ride is sure to make your head spin.

Of course, the ad says that it is a street legal gasser, which means that she isn’t likely 100% authentic. However, I am a big fan of tribute cars, and this Nova Gasser is well done.

Where do we start? Ah, yes – with the big block.

When you have 454 cubic inches of cast iron and rotating parts at your disposal, spectacular things are bound to happen. And, when you add go fast goodies that help it breathe better, the power stacks up even more.

Power…

That’s one of the things I love about Gasanova (as it’s affectionately called). A lot of tribute cars are all about looks. All show and no go, if you will.

But not this one. It’s hard not to have any go with that much fire breathing power under your hood. Actually, there’s so much motor in between the front fenders that it can’t all be contained under the hood; it has to stick its nose out a few inches thanks to the tunnel ram intake and dual four barrel Holley’s.

At first glance, I thought the headers were an awesome addition to the powerhouse. Shiny metal tubing to flow the exhaust gasses away from the engine bay as efficient as possible is what these babies are all about. However, upon further inspection, it looks like there is more to this exhaust than meets the eye. It is hard to tell, but there could be a couple of different things going on here.

If you look closely, just in front of the rear wheels, you’ll see an exhaust pipe. It could just be an exhaust cut out. Meaning that with the flick of a switch, the gasses are diverted through the headers or through the rest of the exhaust. Or, the external pipes are just there for looks. I guess another option would be to put the exhaust pipe there to keep appearances, but I’m not sure I’d go that route.

Who knows what the laws for this car’s home state are, and what was needed to comply. What we do know is that this is a well done tribute car that is both show and go. All that remains is to remove the vinyl lettering and slap some real gold leaf on the side, and Gasanova will be ready to rock.

Curious about this little blue 1964 Chevy II gasser? Check out the Barrett Jackson Auction this January to find out more and to see what she brings in.

Can you see what’s going on with the exhaust? Did I miss anything? What do you think about this gasser?
