Here’s What Happened to Jarrid Kopras’ ’69 Camaro RestoMod

December 31, 2019

Back in April, we did a feature on Jarrid Kopras’ 1969 Camaro RestoMod (read about it here.) If you already know about this car, then you’ll know that it hides a fully built small block engine with an inter-cooled supercharger making a monstrous 800 horsepower. When we last talked to Jarrid, he was listing the beastly Camaro for sale, and while Jarrid is happy to say that he has now sold his legendary Camaro, this story on its sale takes an interesting turn.

A man in California purchased the Camaro from Jarrid, but he had some requests as it turned out. “The person that bought it decided to add some extras and wanted all of my contacts to do the upgrades here in Arizona before it shipped to California,” Jarrid says. This meant that after the purchase, even more work would go into the Camaro before turning it over to its new owner. Not only did the buyer pay for the car in full, he also paid for the new modifications to go on. So Jarrid got the band back together and the work began.

The first item on the buyer’s list was doing a Rally Sport conversion, which was made possible by Detroit Speed’s RS conversion kit. Jarrid’s team installed it and the facelift looks awesome.

This was back when Jarrid had finished the Camaro and listed it for sale.
This is the Camaro now with the ‘Rally Sport’ kit.
Before. This configuration of the front styling was original to the car.
After. The Rally Sport hideaway headlight covers were a popular item on Camaros. Our very first sweepstakes car had them as well.

The buyer also requested to have the Camaro upgraded with electronic power steering to fully modernize the car’s turning, so the team made it happen. Also upgraded was the Camaro’s stopping power: 6 piston brakes from Wilwood now makes the car stop on a dime.

The beefy front brakes. Wilwood makes top of the line brakes for just about any classic car.
The rear brakes shrouded in those deep dish 20in Boyd’s Wheels.
Electronic power steering makes the car more responsive during turning.

The buyer also wanted to have the car ceramic coated, which further protects the body, reduces trips to the car wash and virtually eliminates the need for constant waxing. The liquid polymer or quartz bonds with the car paint and gives it a lasting shine.

Jarrid says that the Camaro’s modifications have been all take care of and paid for. The car was paid for in full several months ago, but it still resides in Jarrid’s garage as he awaits further instruction from the buyer. The funny thing is, the buyer paid for the car so early, without ever even seeing or driving it in person, just so that Jarrid could go ahead and pick up a fantastic Audi R8 that had become available for purchase. “My question is, who does that! Only a car guy would do something like this,” Jarrid laughed.

Jarrid Kopras is officially the coolest car guy ever. Nuff said.

Jarrid wanted to thank us for featuring his incredible 1969 Camaro RestoMod, and we thank Jarrid for sharing his amazing story with us. Jarrid also told us that his dear friend Bernie Erlandson is surviving cancer and enjoying life to its fullest. Bernie got to see his daughter get married and see one his vehicles get published all in the same year. If you recall, Bernie was responsible with a lot of the Camaro’s fabrication back in the day when Jarrid was a young(er) man; learning the ropes of classic car modding in Bernie’s shop. Perhaps if Jarrid and Bernie had never met, this story may not have been told. So cheers to Jarrid, Bernie, and everyone who was a part of building this badass Camaro. You guys are all legends and we’re proud to immortalize you here at RestoMods.
