Our 1957 Chevy 150 Is The Perfect Californian Restomod
Created in Detroit in 1957, reborn in Southern California in 2018, this Chevy 150 is an American icon given new life. Whether you want to tear down highways, cruise down the coast, or just show it off outside an In-N-Out Burger, we’re pretty sure this is the perfect restomod. Here’s why.
The stock 283ci engine wasn’t a racer by any stretch of the imagination, so it’s hit the curb. Under the hood, you’re going to find a fresh ZZ4 350ci crate motor. Added to this beauty is a Holley four-barrel carburetor, long tube headers, and more. The result? Over 400 horsepower. It drives like a dream too: calm and collected around town, but with acceleration to rival any modern car for when you need it. It also sounds absolutely brutal: when other drivers hear it coming, the seas will part in front of you.
We’ve left the styling most unchanged, and for good reason. When you see this car, you instantly recognize it as the icon of 1950s Americana that it is. It’s a Chevrolet, and you can’t improve on perfection. The new American Racing Torque Thrust wheels and more aggressive stance are the only things that mark this out as being something more than a classic ‘57.
The stock three-speed you’d find in the stock Chevy 150 has been replaced with a World Class five-speed. A much needed improvement, the five-speed is extremely versatile. Up in fifth, you’ll cruise comfortably, and in first, you’ll be able to make the engine roar like a caged lion.
How does this car tickle your fancy? Well, we’re not done yet. The interior is a masterwork of modern convenience, complete with Vintage Air A/C, and a custom stereo with a phone connector. On the dash, you’ll find brand new, clear, Autometer gauges. This modern tech rests comfortably inside the stunning interior of this ’57 interior.
